2011 Volvo S40
The 2011 S40 is a 4-door, 5-passenger sports sedan, available in two trims, the T5 and the T5 R-Design.
Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I5, 227-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 30-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard.
Whats New for 2011
For the 2011 Volvo S40, the base 2.4i model has been discontinued, as has the all-wheel-drive T5 R-Design. Some features have been added and shuffled between the surviving trim levels.Introduction
There used to be a distinct gap between premium and non-premium sedans. In recent years, that gap has been filling up with attractively priced four-doors with luxury aspirations. The 2011 Volvo S40 is such a sedan, with more prestige than your run-of-the-mill domestic model, but not quite as much sophistication as the established European competitors. The niche positioning, however, presents some problems. On the positive side, the Volvo S40 certainly looks the part of a European sport sedan. Even though this latest generation has been in production for seven years now, the S40 manages to still look fresh. This is especially true on the inside, where the sleek "floating waterfall" center stack and available two-tone upholstery continue to set this car apart from its more conservative rivals. Under the hood youll find a standard 227-horsepower turbocharged five-cylinder engine that provides livelier acceleration than youll find in the typical four-cylinder sedan.
Beyond this, the S40 just doesnt do much else to distinguish itself. Whether youre looking for the latest technology features, sportier performance, higher fuel economy or just a more prestigious image, youll likely find a better choice. In the S40s price range, models like the sporty Acura TSX V6, the stylish Buick Regal and the well-equipped Volkswagen CC are more appealing. Similarly, the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G Sedan justify their higher costs through added performance and prestige. Overall, the S40 is a fine car on its own merits, but youll definitely want to shop around.
Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2011 Volvo S40 Sedan is available in two trim levels: T5 and T5 R-Design.The base T5 comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, foglights, heated outside mirrors, air-conditioning, an eight-way power driver seat with memory, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, neoprene-like T-Tec upholstery, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, Bluetooth and an eight-speaker stereo with a CD player, HD radio and USB/auxiliary input jacks. Adding the optional Preferred package will also get you a sunroof, leather upholstery and a power passenger seat.
The T5 R-Design includes all of the above and spices things up with front and rear spoilers, side skirts, a sport steering wheel, unique watch-dial gauges and aluminum pedals.
Both trims are available with the Climate package, which adds heated front seats, headlight washers, automatic wipers and automatic climate control. The Multimedia package adds a premium 10-speaker stereo and a navigation system with real-time traffic. Stand-alone options include 18-inch wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, satellite radio, keyless ignition/entry, rear parking sensors and a blind-spot detection system paired with power-folding mirrors.
Powertrains and Performance
With the cancellation of last years base engine, the S40 is now offered solely with a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-5 that pumps out 227 hp and 236 pound-feet of torque. A standard five-speed automatic routes power to the front wheels -- all-wheel drive is no longer available. Zero to 60 mph is reached in 6.7 seconds. The EPA estimates fuel economy at 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway and 24 mpg in combined driving.Safety
Antilock disc brakes, traction control and stability control are standard on all 2011 Volvo S40s. Also included are front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags, along with whiplash-reducing front head restraints. A blind-spot warning system (BLIS) is optional across the lineup. The S40 has not been rated using the governments new, more strenuous 2011 crash testing procedures. Its 2010 ratings (which arent comparable to 2011 tests) resulted in ratings of four out of five stars for driver protection in a frontal crash, five stars for front passenger protection and five stars for front and rear side-impact protection. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing, the S40 was awarded the best rating of "Good" in the frontal-offset test and the second-best "Acceptable" rating in the side-impact test.
Interior Design and Special Features
Fans of modern Scandinavian design will likely find the 2011 S40s interior to their liking. The floating waterfall center stack is unique to Volvo models, and is indicative of the manufacturers novel aesthetic; its a look that helps set the S40s cabin apart from those seen in other sedans. The R-Designs two-tone leather interior -- with its generous serving of youthful spirit -- makes for an even more intriguing space. The climate controls are easy to operate and attractive in their simplicity, but the optional navigation system is burdened with unintuitive controls and outdated graphics and menus. The interior itself is well constructed, with excellent materials. The seats are well-shaped for comfortable long-distance motoring, with plenty of support. The T-Tec upholstery in the base S40 breathes well in hot weather and also holds passengers in place when cornering, making it a fine substitute for the leather option. Trunk capacity, on the other hand, is a bit of a disappointment, at just 12.6 cubic feet.
Driving Impressions
The 2011 Volvo S40s turbocharged five-cylinder provides enough power to entertain most drivers, but there is a noticeable amount of turbo lag off the line. On curvy roads, the S40 is stable and confidence-inspiring, though the competing BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G37 are quite a bit more fun to drive.Friday, May 3, 2013
2011 Ford Fiesta
Fiesta gets the most out of every corner, thanks to the technical precision only a Ford-tuned suspension can offer. Taking on straightaways is a smooth affair, too, when you combine electric power-assisted steering with the proprietary Ford invention, active nibble control. Covert aerodynamic design and critical technology such as the class-exclusive PowerShift six-speed automatic and 1.6L Ti-VCT Duratec® I4 engine with twin-independent variable cam timing make it a responsive and fuel-responsible driving experience.
Fuel-Efficient Technology
Fiesta thinks on its feet, combining aerodynamic design with efficiency-critical technology to deliver a responsive and fuel-responsible driving experience.Fuel-Efficient Technology
Fiesta thinks on its feet, combining aerodynamic design with efficiency-critical technology to deliver a responsive and fuel-responsible driving experience. No other compact car matches Fiesta in fuel economy.2 Fiesta SE with the Super Fuel Economy Package gets an impressive EPA-estimated 29 city/40 hwy/33 combined. The Super Fuel Economy Package features underbody shields and blockers on the lower grille to help minimize air resistance and increase fuel efficiency. Other aerodynamic features include aero-shaped body-mounted mirrors and the line cut into the taillamps. And all models feature rapid-fire shifting, which is enhanced by a powertrain control module making real-time adjustments, producing efficient mobility.

2011 Nissan Navara Geneva Motor Show User Manual

Europes mortal commercialism pick-up and its SUV sibling since its commence - the 2010 Nissan Navara tally been assumption a mid-term aid with a confine of large enhancements designed to resource them at the top. Among the changes are the traveler of a new and technically progressive 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine; main improvements to the fashionable 2.5-litre dCi engineer; greater levels of resistless hit; new equipment including the availability of a state-of-the-art Nissan Unite Payment touch-screen equipment steering scheme, a reward Bose say system and a place orientation camera; enhanced surface propertied and a symbol of styling changes to rest Navara and Pathfinder superficial shrewd. Launched at the Hollands Locomote Show, the restored new-look Nissan Navara models are due on marketing crosswise Assemblage in Apr 2010. They instrument be followed two months later by the new 3.0-litre V6 engineer flagship models. The new plainspoken solution V6 turbodiesel has been industrial by the Renault Nissan Fusion to give piping levels of execution with stiff frugality, rivalrous emissions and class-leading flawlessness. The key environs of the new V6 - with an uncommon vee predetermine of 65 degrees - is the crucial choson for the engine bar. Coalition developing engineers chose Compacted Carbon Bond (CGI), a crucial that offers all the benefits of throw irons, including screaky levels of stiffness and noise sorption, without the weight penalty. And patch CGI is heavier than a undefiled mixture withhold there is no pauperization to add activity ribs or unneeded measure deadening touchable so the coefficient make is comparatively discreet gained during the process of the Fusion 2.0-litre dCi engine - and carrying over whatsoever discipline - accelerated usage of the new V6, but size of meaningful changes mortal been prefabricated to the hardware for the V9X. The oxidization chamber programme, for representation, has been optimised to alter the match between emission levels and fuel efficiency. The compressing ratio has been down to 16:1 to good not honourable frugality and emissions but also noise, motility and rigour (NVH), piece intrinsic engine friction is reduced by the use of ultra satiny components specified as the micro-finished imitative poise victimised for the crankshaft.
2011 Nissan GT R
Our test numbers have the GT-R scorching the asphalt from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and passing the quarter-mile mark in 11.5 seconds at 124 mph. With numbers like that, the car obviously is in dire need of a higher-performance version.
Indeed, one of our spy photographers has snapped what we think and hope is a prototype for a GT-R Spec V as it was being unloaded from a truck at Nissan’s NĂĽrburgring workshop, and then as it was put through its paces.
This does not appear to be an ordinary GT-R (not that ordinary should ever precede the noun GT-R), as the test car reveals subtle differences. We admit we expected more differentiation, but these spy shots only show a revised front splitter with additional air intake slits, presumably to cool the brakes after a heady stop. We recorded braking from 70 mph in 145 feet, and skidpad runs of 0.99 g with the regular GT-R, so we can only imagine the need for greater stopping power on the Spec V. The prototype appears to up the ante with an upgraded ceramic composite braking system. Gone are the gold Brembo brake calipers of the first GT-R prototypes. The tester here also sports new six-spoke wheels.
The expectation is the Spec V will come in at least 200 pounds lighter than the 3908-pound curb weight of the 2009 GT-R. Look for more carbon-fiber body panels, including the rear wing that is covered in camouflage here.
The Spec V will undoubtedly cost a pretty penny more than the $70,475 base car, but we’ll be shocked if the price breaks the six-figure barrier. The rumor mill has the Spec V endowed with as much as 550 horsepower compared with 480 hp with the conventional GT-R—a number that should all but guarantee that the Spec V will leave even more exotic sheetmetal in its wake than the regular GT-R.
Now three years old, the highly-acclaimed Nissan GT-R receives minor tweaks for 2011, but maintains its supercar allure and abilities. While the base trim has been discontinued, the Nissan GT-R Premium receives a mild refresh. Also, a number of previously optional features are now standard. Not surprisingly, reviewers are impressed Autoblog writes, "The illustrious Nissan GT-R is, quite possibly, one of our favorite cars currently in production."
Still, the 2011 Nissan GT-R isnt without its faults. In addition to a useless back seat, it garners mixed reviews for its looks. Plus, some purists cringe at the fact that the Nissan GT-R doesnt come equipped with a traditional manual transmission. But taken as a whole, these are minor issues.
Given the GT-R’s 2011 upgrades, shoppers should expect a slightly steeper sticker price. The 2010 model starts at $80,790. However, the 2011 Nissan GT-R will carry a starting price of $84,060. But considering that the 2011 Nissan GT-R’s performance capabilities rival higher-priced exotics from Ferrari and Lamborghini, it’s still a steal.

2011 Carlsson C25 Royale
German tuner Carlsson has revealed the new C25 Royale Super GT at the Geneva Motor Show. The Carlsson C25 Royale Super GT is based on the Mercedes SL 65 AMG, featuring unique carbon fibre body and interior. The 6.0 litre bi-turbo V12 engine is upgraded to produce an 743bhp) and an electronically limited 848 lb-ft of torque.
Carlsson’s Super GT – C25 Royale sports over 70 innovations and is 180 kilograms lighter than its basis Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG, due largely to its complete real carbon exterior. Aimed at offering customers an exclusive ride that can be used as both, a ultra-fast race-like car or a daily ride, the Carlsson C25 Royale further highlights a full ceramic brake system and lower center of gravity, which allows more dynamic cornering ability and more agile handling.
Power is sent to rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission, enabling the 1,970kg luxury sports coupe to accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 219 mph.
Inside, the cabin is relatively untouched but there is a revised center console which is cantered towards the driver. If you find this less than thrilling, you can add carbon fiber trim (€13,564), a FOCAL audio system (€18,860), and the Clubsport package which includes race seats, a roll cage, a fire extinguisher, and six-point safety harnesses (€35,400).

Press Release
World premiere in Geneva:
Super GT Carlsson C25 Royale
- More than 70 innovations in Carlssons new Super GT
- C25 Royale saves 180 kilograms of weight compared to basis model
- Roof made from real carbon lowers the cars centre of gravity
- V12 biturbo engine with 753 hp capable of achieving 352 kph
- Each vehicles is absolutely unique
As part of its new 2011 generation range, automobile manufacturer Carlsson presents its C25 Royale Super GT with carbon roof and exterior, optimised driving dynamics and perfected electronics. The philosophy remains the same: with excellent design and the utmost in exclusivity, the C25 Royale combines maximum driving performance with everyday practicality.
Safety is another area where the C25 Royale fulfils highest standards. This is due to the crash structure which is the same as in the basis model and guarantees maximal protection for the passengers. Also, the Super GT presents itself extremely easy to service. All workshop of the worldwide Mercedes-Benz service network can service the C25 Royale.
The C25 Royale presents itself as a counter-design to the electro hype. More than 40 electric motors are used in the C25 Royale as well - but underneath the bonnet youll find a traditional 12-cylinder engine, whose 753 hp ensure not only power but also thunderous drive. The purified exhaust gases make an impressive sound as they exit through the four diamond-shaped tailpipes into the open air. The breathtaking power pushes the driver into the ergonomically shaped seats, which have a massage function and a ventilation system to ensure greater comfort on long journeys. In addition, the transmission tunnel, incorporating all the important control functions, is headed towards the driver, allowing him to give his full attention to the road ahead. Because in the C25 Royale, the journey is its own reward.
Carlsson has realised more than 70 innovations in the new C25 Royale. The cars handling in particular is better than ever before. Plus, compared to the basis model Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG, the C25 Royale is 180 kilogram lighter which is due largely to the complete real carbon exterior. This not only reduces the overall weight of the Super GT, it also effectively lowers the cars centre of gravity and allows more dynamic cornering ability and more agile handling as Carlsson has revised the vehicles entire weight distribution and installed a differential lock. The full ceramic brake system reduces the weight by 50 percent and reduces the unsprung mass for a more dynamic handling. The generously designed ceramic brake discs and the solid aluminium callipers allows later braking coming into bends while the revised electronics guarantee improved response, giving greater dynamism when coming off bends.
The C25 Royales outstanding performance data is impressive too. The strikingly beautiful sports coupé with the V12 biturbo engine achieves 753 hp (554 kW) and maximum torque of 1320 Newton metres (which is limited electronically to 1150 Newton metres). This allows the Super GT to race from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.7 seconds and to achieve a maximum speed of 352 kph.
Only one C25 per country guarantees the utmost in exclusivity
In addition, Carlsson (which has been recognised as an independent manufacturer for some years now by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority Kraftfahrtbundesamt) can offer one excellent unique selling point: Not more than 25 specimens of the C25 Royale are being made. And, to enhance the exclusivity of this ultra-limited edition still further, Carlsson is only delivering one vehicle per country. Six vehicles are already sold and will be delivered to the customers in 2011. It takes six month from order to delivery.
Each C25 Royale is absolutely unique. Colours and paint combinations can be put together as per the customers wishes. Similarly, the customer can decide what materials are used and what interior features their vehicle will have. Not one of the already ordered vehicles is alike the other ones.
Maximum performance combined with everyday comfort for the first time
The Carlsson C25 Royale is not just an exclusive vehicle with outstanding performance data. The engineers at Gut Wiesenhof, Carlssons headquarters in Germany, are the ones in the world to bring together the performance data of a super car with everyday practicality. "There are more than enough super cars around that can only be driven safely on a racing track", says engineer Markus Schuster, Managing Director at Carlsson. "We deliberately wanted to develop a car that is exclusive on the one hand but can still be used for the daily commute to the office. A Super GT which can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.7 seconds while at the same time offering the utmost in ride comfort."
In particular, the intelligent C-Tronic® SUSPENSION developed by Carlsson guarantees excellent ride comfort. This system measures a whole range of parameters, like the spring rate, on a continuous basis, which allows it to detect the road conditions and the driving style. Where road conditions are poor, the C-Tronic® raises the residual spring travel, thereby providing optimal ride comfort. As soon as the surface conditions have improved, the system will lower the entire suspension completely automatically and achieve perfect cornering dynamics.
Emotions instead of sacrifice
The twelve-cylinder reflects the companys performance capacity and competence. Carlsson emphasises on first-class engineering instead of immature technology, on daily suitability instead of utopian scenarios, on emotions instead of sacrifice.
With the C25 Royale, Carlsson has gone one step further on the road to developing a completely new class of vehicle. No other car manages to combine excellent driving performance, unique design, perfect everyday practicality and the utmost in exclusivity.
